Why Ownbase

Why manage it yourself?

Google and Microsoft are excellent products. But your data sits on US servers, falls under the US CLOUD Act and is subject to price increases you have no say in. It does not have to be that way.

In theory, the US CLOUD Act gives US authorities access to data stored with US companies, even when that data is physically located in the EU. With a European open source solution, that threat disappears entirely.

What if Ownbase stops trading?

Because Nextcloud is open source and the server belongs to your organisation, you are never dependent on us. Management can always be handed over to another party.

Are there any hidden costs?

No. Everything is agreed in writing in advance, based on the NLdigital Terms and Conditions 2025. The scan always has a fixed price, the migration is priced to fit and management runs on a fixed monthly fee.

How long does a migration take?

A small organisation of 5 to 10 employees can usually switch over completely within one to two weeks. After the scan, we will know exactly.

Will any files be lost during the migration?

No, not if it is done properly. We always make a backup of the existing environment before we start.

Can staff keep working during the migration?

Mostly, yes. There is typically a short switchover of a few hours, which we schedule outside office hours.

Can staff keep using Outlook?

Yes. Whether staff read their email in Nextcloud, Outlook, Thunderbird or on their phone makes no difference. As long as the mail server supports IMAP, it works with any email program.
